The candle arches from the "Erzgebirge" (ore mountains)
unites
the ideas of the miners with
the conscious
represantion
of the light.
It got its name in dependence on the support
curve in architecture
which was also
applied in the miners
lug wall.
It is not proved unambiguously whether the miners
at christmas
evening hang up their miners lamp in the lug
mouthpieces to their
matins layer on the bill ore whether
this contemplative celebration
arched candlesticks came for
the application. However, it is known,
that the oldest
candle arch was a gift from a smith to the ore miners
in
1778 in Johanngeorgenstadt.
At the beginning the candle arches were made of metal and
contained miner and cristian subjects – mostly
in silhouttes representation.
Later they were manufactured
from wood
and were featured with fretworks inside and also
with rich figurative, representations.
Often these were related
to the nearest region. |
